Why a video?

looking for a training video demonstrating a counselling session using the person centred approach?
looking for a tool to explore with students the skills used by a counsellor?
looking to provoke a discussion about the process of the session using concepts from a variety of different therapeutic models?

As tutors on counselling courses we have often been asked by students for a demonstration of counselling; to see how 'it is done' and to be able to analyse the process between counsellor and client. From these requests arose the idea of producing a training video in particular for counselling diploma students in order to:-

provide a demonstration of a person centred approach to counselling
provide a tool for exploring with students the different skills used by the counsellor
provide a basis for discussion about the process between the counsellor and client using concepts from a variety of models of counselling
demonstrate working with a client presenting a frame of reference, which might be different to the counsellor's
demonstrate how to put energy into being with the client, by understanding their experience and respecting their inner world
demonstrate that every story presented by the client warrants attention and effort by the counsellor to understand its deeper meaning
